Simple Turmeric Latte

Since trying this for the first time in Le Pain Quotidien a few months ago, I have been totally hooked: Turmeric Latte!

Turmeric Everything seems to be a big trend at the moment, and you know what: I couldn’t mind less!

I have loved cooking with turmeric for ages, but mostly used it in my curry’s until I found out that it’s brilliant to be used on other ways as well.

Is turmeric latte the new matcha latte? Possibly!

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. – it has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. What not to love about turmeric in that case?!

In combination with black pepper, the curcumin can be absorbed better by the body. For that benefit I always try to team my turmeric with some black pepper, where possible – like in this turmeric latte mix.

Why spent plenty of money on a pre-mixed turmeric latte when you can simply make your own at home?

Turmeric Latte Recipe

Here’s the recipe:

Turmeric Latte Recipe

Ingredients

1 tsp turmeric powder

3 strands of saffron

a pinch of cracked black pepper

1 cardamom pod

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp ginger powder

200 ml soy milk

Method

1. Add the spices to a saucepan and turn on the stove on medium heat.

2. Let the spices ‘grill’ in the saucepan for a minute or two – so that they can release their full aroma.

3. Add the soy milk and stir with a whisk.

4. Once achieved your desired temperature, simply drain through a small sieve right into your cup – et voila: you are ready to go and kick ass! 😉 Some sprinkled cinnamon on the top works wonders, too!

A little tip on the side: make sure that the mix does not start bubbling on the stove and whisk it regularly, so that the spice mix does not bake to the bottom of your sauce pan.
