📍Fu Manchu, 15-16 Lendal Terrace, Clapham, London SW4 7UX
Nearest Tube Station: Clapham North (Northern Line)
I’ve recently ventured down to Clapham to try out ‘The Meet‘ – a new vegan pop-up which has taken over the Fu Manchu under the arches in Clapham.
With only a 2 minute walk from the station, Fu Manchu is super easy to get to and the big grafitti out the front let’s you know right away that you’ve made it to the right place.
Myself, I have never been to the arches in Clapham and was therefore excited about the location as well as the food that I had heard about before.
I absolutely loved the vibe of the venue – with the bar and tables under the arches, colourful lighting and beautiful artwork on the walls next to the kitchen, Fu Manchu reminds of a stylish bar, but also created the perfect location for the hip vegan menu of The Meet.
First of all: The Meet is entirely vegan. And what an awesome menu they have put together!
I honestly think there’s something available for every mood: from small plates, which are perfect for the little hunger or as a starter (or simply order two of them as a main!) to their ‘Bigger Things’, burgers and also lighter dishes, their menu offers a great variety of interesting dishes.
Also dessert lovers get their fair share on the menu with a vegan tops turvy, cheese cake and more – and on weekends The Meet also offers a vegan brunch as well as a Sunday roast (I definitely have to come back for this one!)
In addition to their food menu, the pop-up also has a great variety of drinks on offer – I have honestly been positively surprised by their offering of exquisite vegan cocktails including ingredients such as cashew milk and match.
I instantly picked the White Russian – a cocktail you would hardly ever find in a vegan version anywhere else, and it was simply fantastic with the perfect balance between the vodka and creamy cashew.
In addition to their cocktails The Meet also offers a variety of vegan beers and wines as well as soft drinks with a healthy twist.
Starting with the starters (as you do) the Cauliflower wings and the Seitan nuggets pretty much instantly caught my eye, so it was clear that I had to order these. My foodie instinct definitely didn’t let me down: the Seitan Nuggets were definitely my favourite starter – I simply loved their firm consistency and the sweet chilli sauce was luckily not too hot for my sensitive taste buds.
The Cauliflower wings were also a gem – covered in plenty of hot sauce, they definitely satisfy anyone with a liking for a good kick (aka Nick).
In addition we also tried out the Green Giant, which was a healthier starter option and totally fine – just simply not as exiting as the first two options we tried – and their mac & cheese, which I surprisingly really enjoyed considering that I like to call myself a max & cheese snob.
Onto the mains! We picked the ‘I don’t give a lamb’ which is an open style kebab made from 3 beans and tofu kofte, the seasoning of which was simply fantastic and strongly reminded me of something I enjoyed a long time ago.
The kebab came on a thick flatbread and with garlic sauce and was accompanied by chips.
I also chose the Big Apple – which is a vegan style grilled cheese sandwich including apple chutney and this just sounded too good to be true (and it did not disappoint). They really didn’t spare with the cheese sauce (big plus point on this) and the combination with the mustard sauce and tangy apple chutney rounded up the dish just perfectly. 100% would order again!
All in all, we were both very satisfied with the vegan food at The Meet – the menu was both interesting and delicious with a healthy twist, just what you’re looking for when going out for a tasty, healthy dinner with friends!
I know I’ll definitely have to head back – there’s simply so much more on the menu that I really want to try – those brunches, roasts and also shakes simply sound too good to miss out on them!
