If invited to try the new vegan menu at Thai Square – then who am I to say ‘no’?
It has actually already been in January when Lina and me headed to Thai Square in Islington after a long day at work to give their vegan menu a go.
Funny enough – I have seen the Thai Square restaurant plenty of times from the outside (both their Islington as well as their Richmond branch) but I have never entered it before and can’t believe that I have been missing out on such a lush and beautifully decorated place all this time!
From traditional Thai statues to beautiful atmospheric lighting, a stunning cocktail bar on the first floor and an entire wall full of plants – their Islington branch is definitely one for the eye! I’m still not certain if those wall plants were real or fake ones (I have to admit I was tempted to just go and touch them, but I could just about hold myself together! :D) but I definitely fell in love with the jungle feel of the location.
As mentioned – I totally can’t believe that I have been walking past this beautiful place all this time without a proper glance inside!
I have to admit I was a little concerned about the food options on my way to the dinner – after all ‘vegan and chilli intolerant’ is not the best diet combination for a visit at a Thai restaurant 😉
And I was positively surprised with the options – starting with an amazing dairy-free and proper(!) Pina Colada!
Did you know that plenty of cocktail bars don’t use coconut milk/cream for their Pina Coladas but mix sugary coconut syrup with dairy cream to create their Pina Coladas? There’s a reason why that just doesn’t sound right: it ain’t! And it’s what happens when cocktail bars try to be cheap.
Definitely one huge plus point for Thai Square to be serving a proper and deliciously vegan Pina Colada – how it should be!
Lina and me ordered two starters – Lina went for the spring rolls with Sweet Chilli sauce (which came on the side and meant I could try it too!) and I had probably the best tofu of 2018 to date (it’ll be hard to top this one!) on these satay tofu skewers.
The vegan Pad Thai definitely had to happen as a main and I was definitely not disappointed! Lina instead went for a super spicy aubergine dish – which I definitely stayed well away from, just looking at it already made my eyes water ha!
If you’d like to have a look what else their current menu has to offer simply find it here . Be aware that their menu is different depending on the branch – but the staff at their Islington branch were definitely super accommodating and happy to take any alterations into account.
Let me know if you’ve tried any other dishes at Thai Square would be awesome to get some more recommendations on what to go for next time.
